Outpatients Department provides Outpatient clinic appointments for a range of specialities. Patients will visit the department to see a consultant for a particular condition. The appointment can last from 10-30 minutes depending on the condition and type of appointment. A nurse will escort you into your appointment and be with you during your consult. The nurse ensures ongoing requirements are made, tests ordered, follow-up arranged, and you understand the health plan being made for you. She will also assist with other needs, such as transport assistance (if you qualify).
- GP sends referral into Outpatients requesting a consultant see you for a particular condition.
- Referral is processed through the BPAC system (an electronic system that enters referrals into our system)
- Referral then issued to Cluster Clerk that deals with that particular speciality.
- Referral issued to consultant/s to prioritise.
- Once prioritised (this determines the urgency or timeframe for the referral) then the referral is entered onto the First Specialist Assessment (FSA) Waiting List.
- An appointment will be made for you dependent on the urgency:
- High priority referrals will be booked as directed
- Routine referrals will be booked within 4 months
- The cluster clerk will make an appointment for you after phoning you to determine a time for your first appointment.
- Your details will be checked during this phone call to ensure we have the correct details. A letter will then be sent to you advising you of your appointment.
