If you spent time last month as a patient at Gisborne Hospital, you may have been asked to fill in a survey on your experiences.
All people in the Tairāwhiti district who spent at least one night in hospital between 4 and 17 August have been sent an invitation to participate in a national survey.
Patients will be able to fill in the survey online using a computer, tablet or smartphone.
This will be the first time hospital patients’ feedback has been collected and measured in the same way across New Zealand.
Developed by the Health Quality & Safety Commission, the survey will help to improve the quality of hospital care and understand how well health services are working for patients and their families.
The survey responses will be anonymous unless patients choose to supply contact details if they want follow-up on any points they might like to raise.
Tairāwhiti District Health will send the survey to patients selected in this way once every three months.
Chief Executive Jim Green said “This is another way we can gain feedback from people receiving care as to what their experience was like and where we can continue to improve. We are keen to listen and learn from patients and family members and ask that as many people as possible take up our invitation of using this method to support us in improving care.”
The Health Quality & Safety Commission will collate the responses to give each District Health Board a rating out of 10 in four areas: coordination, partnership, communications, and physical and emotional needs.
