Georgie's passion is helping people

Georgie Johnson

Listening to people’s views, ideas, suggestions and concerns so I can help is my passion says Georgina (Georgie) Johnson.

Georgie has recently joined Hauora Tairāwhiti’s Clinical Governance Group as a consumer representative. The group is made up of clinical leaders who plan, develop, implement and monitor clinical processes at Hauora Tairāwhiti. The group makes sure services are safe and delivered to the highest standards.

“I want to be useful and helpful. I have a degree in Governance and Business and I hope to put this to good use in this role. I will use the knowledge gained to influence policy, planning and decision-making processes that will have better health outcomes for Māori and non-Māori.

“I am an experienced consumer representative and will be encouraging and supporting effective consumer representation within Hauora Tairāwhiti. I believe that is the key to supporting quality services and better health outcomes.”

“I want to be part of a robust service that the public can be confident that meets or exceeds standards. In this role, looking for continuous improvement is key to making a difference. Let us look to the Hauora Tairawhiti WAKA values - Whakarangatira, Awhi, Kotahitanga, Aroha.“

Georgie’s role is to put forward the perspective of people using health services.

“I have a number of local and national networks to draw from, but it is more the local groups that I am interested in. These groups are involved with children, young adults, elderly, and disabled from all walks of life.”

Georgie has worked with:

  • Tangata Whenua Community Research Centre Governance
  • Tairāwhiti District Health Community & Public Health
  • Health & Disability Multi-Region Ethics Committee
  • CommunityNet Aotearoa
  • Community Sector Taskforce
  • National Association OSCAR (Out of School Care & Recreation)
  • Tairawhiti REAP
  • Tokomaru Bay Community Group Charitable Trust
  • Alzheimer’s Tairawhiti/Gisborne
  • Gisborne Justice of Peace Association as Registrar.

“I believe being effective in putting forward consumers’ perspectives is empowering. I will be requesting feedback from consumers on ideas, suggestions and concerns regarding Hauora Tairawhiti services.

“I want to work with a dynamic, forward-thinking and moving health system that sets the standard nationally and works towards an international standard.”
