To make the best use of Hauora Tairāwhiti’s Ormond Road Campus and any new builds over the next 20-30 years a long-term plan for our facility in Ormond Road has been developed.
It is a guide for any short, medium and long-term facility changes. There are often requests for building work and over time many of these have been completed in an ad-hoc way. Before we spend more money on developing our facilities at the Gisborne Hospital site we need to know if it is a good long-term investment. It is.
It is a high level plan with an emphasis on creating efficiencies, providing better services for our people and maximising the usable life of the complex. It is not about identifying where staff will work in the future - just the general area services may be in.
There is considerable work required to identify the specific, timed development projects. We also need to consider how we will fund the projects. We do know that the Medical Day Unit is the first project up as we have the funding for that promised and a working group is detailing the specifications for that project.
The plan reflects the input of staff and stakeholders. While not everything suggested is included in the plan, all feedback has been considered.
The plan is primarily about the services that will always be done in a hospital. For example we are always going to do an operation in a theatre but there may be other options for where other services operate from.
