Datix is Hauora Tairāwhiti’s new incident management system. Datix is used to record incidents and complaints. It allows us to capture information about patient and staff incidents, patient feedback (complaints, compliments and suggestions) and to be able to look into these in detail. The more detailed information we have, the better we can find ways to improve our service and care.
In 2017, it will also record our risks and act as a register for some patient safety initiatives.
Datix helps us to learn from incidents and identify the areas we need to prioritise to find solutions. When an incident is entered into Datix staff can see progress on the investigation of the incident as well as if there have been other similar incidents.
Hauora Tairāwhiti has worked alongside the other Midland DHBs (Waikato DHB, Taranaki DHB, Bay of Plenty DHB and Lakes DHB) to implement and manage Datix. Working as a region allows us to share what we know and learn about events, and also allows us to compare how we are performing against each other.
